Employer pay-advance service · DailyPay On-Demand Pay
DailyPay: what it costs and what the record shows
DailyPay works through participating employers and lets workers transfer part of the pay they have already earned before payday; the transferred amount and any fees are deducted from the paycheck. Next-business-day transfers are free, while instant transfers carry a per-transfer fee that varies by employer.
Checked against the company’s published terms and official records on 2026-10-18.
DailyPay does not publish every fee we would need to price a $100 advance, so we don’t show an APR. What it does publish is below.
- What it is
- Employer pay-advance service
- Who runs it
- DailyPay, LLC (NMLS ID 2587396); the NY Attorney General petition and the 2021 California MOU name DailyPay, Inc.
- Most you can get
- A portion of earned pay ('available earnings'), never 100% of earnings; DailyPay limits transfers to $1,000 per 24-hour period.1
- Monthly membership
- None
- Instant transfer
- Instant ("Now") transfer: a flat fee per transfer that varies by employer. Program Terms: $1.99-$3.99. Help center: "ranges from $2.49 to $3.99", "typically $3.49", "a flat fee of $3.49 or less". The fee is the same regardless of amount, is taken out of the transfer, and is shown before you confirm. Instant transfers to a DailyPay Visa Prepaid Card set up with direct deposit are fee-free. Instant transfers may not be available in Connecticut.2
- Standard transfer
- Next business day ACH transfer: $0.00; arrives in 1-3 business days.
- Tips
- No worker tip request is described in the On-Demand Pay Program Terms or help articles reviewed.2
Whether an app is “legit” comes down to facts you can check: who runs it, what it charges, whether it is licensed or registered where a state requires it, and what regulators and courts have said about it. Those facts for DailyPay are below, each with its source. Offered through your employer, which shares your hours and pay with the provider; the advance comes out of your paycheck.

| DailyPay Card fees | The optional DailyPay Visa Prepaid Card has its own fee schedule (e.g., ATM fees); not reviewed here.3 |
| Late fees or interest | No interest or late fees described. The program is described as non-recourse: if the employer does not pay DailyPay, the worker owes nothing, and DailyPay says it will not collect from the worker's accounts, use debt collection, sell the amount, or report to a consumer reporting agency.2 |
What the marketing says, and what it leaves out
- “no-fee and transaction fee options”: The free option is a next-business-day transfer (1-3 business days); instant transfers cost a flat fee that DailyPay states as $1.99-$3.99 or $2.49-$3.99 depending on the document, and the NY Attorney General alleged DailyPay collects fees on about 90% of its transfers (an allegation).
- “Instant transfers fee-free to DailyPay Card”: Only when your direct deposit is set up to the DailyPay Visa Prepaid Card issued by The Bancorp Bank, N.A.
The real cost, worked out
Same formula as our calculator: total cost ÷ amount × 365 ÷ days. Tips are left at $0 because they are optional; a tip adds to the cost.
| Example | You pay | Per $100 | APR |

How DailyPay works
- Confirm your employer offers DailyPay, then sign up in the app or on the website.
- Verify your identity using work information (phone, email, employee ID or bank details).
- Link a bank account (and optionally a debit card).
- See your available earnings update as your employer reports completed shifts.
- Transfer some earnings: next business day (free) or instant (fee varies by employer).
- On payday, transfers and fees are deducted and the rest of your pay is deposited.
Steps summarized from DailyPay Help: How does DailyPay work?6.
Who can get it
Your employer must participate in DailyPay. You sign up with a personal email, DailyPay locates your employer and verifies you with work details. You must link at least one bank account (Primary Bank Account) and may link a debit card. No credit report, credit score or underwriting is used.4
How it is paid back
After your first transfer, DailyPay sets itself as the direct deposit account of record with your employer. On payday your employer sends the paycheck to DailyPay, which deducts transfers and fees made during the pay period and sends the rest to your Primary Bank Account.5

Cheaper ways to cover a gap
- Ask your employer whether it offers pay advances through payroll, and what they cost you.
- Federal credit union payday alternative loans (PALs) are capped at 28% APR.
- Ask the bill’s company (utility, landlord, lender) for a payment plan or a few days’ extension.
- Call or text 211 for local emergency help with rent, utilities and food.
